Frequently Asked Questions
A Netherlands Schengen Visa is a short-stay (Type C) visa that allows eligible travellers to visit the Netherlands for tourism, business, visiting family/friends, or short events, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
A Schengen Visa is generally valid for travel across the Schengen Area, unless your visa has a restriction like “Valid for: NL only”.
You can stay for a maximum of 90 days within a rolling 180-day period, as per your visa sticker and the number of days granted.
Not necessarily. A Schengen Visa can be granted for fewer days, depending on your itinerary, documents, and the embassy’s decision.
Yes. You can reapply after addressing the refusal reasons, improving documentation, and ensuring your new application is stronger and more complete.
A cover letter is a written explanation of your trip, including purpose of travel, travel dates, itinerary, who will pay, accommodation details, and your return plan. It helps the visa officer understand your application clearly.
Extensions are rare and usually only allowed in exceptional cases such as force majeure, humanitarian reasons, or serious personal reasons—subject to local immigration rules and approval.
Even with a 1-year multiple-entry visa, you can stay only up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen Area (unless your visa states otherwise).
You should ideally apply well in advance. In general, you can apply up to 6 months before travel (and typically not later than 15 days before departure).
Processing time varies by season and case type. In general, Schengen applications may take around 15 calendar days, and can take longer if additional checks/documents are needed.
You can track your application status online through the official visa application center (VFS Global) using your reference number and date of birth.
Yes, in most cases you must book an appointment at the visa application centre to submit documents and biometrics.
Usually, each applicant needs their own appointment (including children, as applicable). Some centres allow family/group booking depending on availability.
Apply to the country that is your main destination (where you will spend the most time). If time is equal across countries, apply to the country of first entry.
Only if your visa is double-entry or multiple-entry. If it’s single-entry, you cannot re-enter once you exit.
Single-entry: You can enter Schengen once only.
Multiple-entry: You can enter and exit multiple times during the visa validity, while respecting the 90/180 rule.
Yes, border officers may ask for proof such as return ticket, hotel bookings, travel insurance, itinerary, and sufficient funds even if you have a valid visa.
Most applicants must apply in person to submit biometrics (fingerprints and photo). Some applicants may be exempt if biometrics were given recently, depending on rules.
Because biometric data (fingerprints + photograph) must be captured and verified, and original documents may need to be checked at submission.
VFS Global handles appointment booking, document submission, biometrics collection, and application tracking on behalf of the embassy/consulate. They do not decide visa outcomes.
Yes, Schengen travel insurance is generally mandatory for short-stay visa applications.
It must cover:
Minimum €30,000 medical coverage
Valid across the entire Schengen Area
Covers medical emergencies + repatriation
Valid for the full duration of stay (often with a small buffer recommended)
Yes, we can assist you in arranging compliant travel insurance as part of the visa process, if you want it included.
The easiest route is to apply with end-to-end assistance where your documents, forms, cover letter, itinerary, insurance, and appointment are handled systematically to avoid errors and delays.
If you share your travel dates, purpose (tourism/business), and city of submission, we can guide you step-by-step and help you prepare a clean, embassy-ready file.

Netherlands Travel Guide
Compact, stylish, and incredibly easy to explore, the Netherlands blends historic canal cities with cutting-edge design, world-class museums, and a famously open, welcoming culture. For a nature break, the dune-lined islands and coastal regions deliver fresh sea air, birdlife, and long sandy beaches—ideal for slow travel, cycling, and relaxed resort-style stays.
